New iMacs hit the market and the pocket…

Apple announced the new iMac range today with what seems like an interim upgrade, making them a bit more beefy, LED backlit and rammed up a bit, but now for an extra £500 on last weeks prices - is it worth it?

Here was me kicking myself as I had just last week bought a 24″ 3.06GHz iMac for £1300 ish. But having read through the specifications I really don’t feel that I am missing out - infact it seems like I got a bit of a bargain if this price hike is a taste of things to come.

Now, if there had been a redesign of the iMac - as in a new look - yeah I would be kicking myself. But for now I remain unbruised.

The future for film lovers?

Take a look at this little beauty… It’s the new Phillips Ultra-wide screen TV. It’s aspect ratio is 21:9 rather than the now standard 16:9.

Here is a TV that gives you cinema-scope viewing area. This should mean no more black bars at the top an bottom of your screen.

It’s not out yet. But let’s see if it lives up to what it looks like it is going to offer.

The Ting Tings

Named after a woman Katie used to work with, The Ting Tings are another band on my playlist at the moment. Such a simple and effective sound - and homegrown too! They played Glastonbury in 2007 on the ‘Introducing Stage’, and now playing everywhere across America. Watch out for more great pop songs.

This is Great DJ - Again simple video (on the surface anyway) - but it works a treat.

One thing I’ve been looking at recently is the use of vector art - especially as I have had a number of requests for reports and books, with none of them having a strong visual theme to latch on to. Below are a number if images I came across which I really liked and thought I’d share with you.

THR ROYAL TENENBAUMS - I saw this film today after an age of reading reviews and hearing about it. OMG, it is stunning, a land of sweetness and a glimpse back at childhood. Alongside RUSHMORE it now sits in my top ten films I am glad to have experienced- I say experienced because you don’t just watch this film you become part of it.

Wes Anderson, clearly an isnpiration to the likes of NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and NACHO LIBRE it delivers in terms of viual uniqueness and delightful musical asides.

In essence, watch the thing! You’ll love it if you get it.

I came across these on Ffffound today whilst looking for some inspiration for a totally unrelated project. Are these just quality or what? Forget the fact that they are representing an organisation or event - they stand alone as pieces of art. More like this please.

Well, it’s been a while since I last posted anything here, but I guess that is just the way things go.

There’s been so many things that I’ve found over the last few weeks that I thought I’d I kick things off again with this series of illustrations. I love the muted tones and positioning of the text.
